With 5G everything will change. It will transform the way we have been interacting with the connected devices. Just imagine you are playing a multi-player game virtually on your smartphone while traveling in a self-driving, with no lag. 5G network will be at least 100 times faster than 4G. It will redefine the data speed.
Before moving ahead, let’s compare the generations of telecom technology.
1G gave us the first mobile phone where we can speak to each other. 2G introduced SMS and MMS, 3G opened the word of data connectivity. And 4G brought us the speed we are using now. But the 4G bandwidth is getting more crowded, as we have more users with smartphones and other wearable devices in the given spectrum.
All this will improve with the new 5G technology. 5G network is 10x times faster and handles 1000x times more traffic than 4G LTE. It will open doors to automated driving, virtual reality, IOT and many more things we cannot imagine. 5G has relatably low latency than 4G. Response time to our commands for 4G is less than 50ms, but with 5G it’s just 1ms.
The 5G network uses the technology called Millimetre waves. This wave spectrum is the band of spectrum between 30GHz and 300GHz, which are high-frequency radio waves. With higher frequency, we can move the data at greater speed. But the MM waves travel less distance and get blocked by buildings and trees. The solution is to create small towers close to each other which will give continuous data at constant speed.
Beamforming is another technology used in 5G. It takes the signal from the tower and sends it to the customer. Beamforming is transmitting data to one direction at one time, giving a user a faster and better experience of 5G.
We are looking forward to the 5G network. It will begin rollout in 2019, bringing ripples that will change and bridge the gap between technology for the future.
